Bicycles are human powered vehicles that  were invented as a means of transport 200 years ago by the German baron Karl von Drais. Initially created as a two-wheeler, the bicycle has since transformed and can be ridden by two or more people.
It’s uses too have expanded.
From recreation to competitive sports such as the Tour de France the bicycle plays an important role in millions of people around the globe.
Today, the global bicycle industry is valued at nearly $45 billion and it’s forecast to reach $62 billion by the next decadeAmsterdam is known as the ‘bicycle capital of the world’. 63 percent of the city’s population use their bikes daily and they contribute to 32 percent of the transport industry. More people prefer to bike in Amsterdam instead of using cars or public transport.
It is fitting then to take a look at the most expensive bikes ever sold or made around the world.
Butterfly Trek Madone – $500,000

This is the bike was ridden by Lance Armstrong in 2009 during the Tour de France. Designed by Damien Hirst, this bikes unique and attractive design makes it stand out. He used real butterflies to celebrate Armstrong’s return to cycling after surviving cancer.

Again, this bike is beautiful and attractive in design and very light in weight. The bike contains drawings by the popular Japanese artist Yoshimoto Nara who draws images of children with negative facial expressions.

The riders of this bike have won lots of races due to its comfortable design. This green and yellow coloured bike, was auctioned off by Sotheby’s for a cancer cause and was made for Armstrong’s daily cycling routine.

This fourth most expensive bike is made of gold. This plush creation is created with 24k karat gold and Swarovski crystals and the seat is made of fine leather. There are seven of these bikes in the world, making it the most sought after bike among mountain bike lovers
Trek Madone 7 – Diamond – $75,000

As the name suggests, this bike is aligned with white stones and 307 diamonds. It was also used by Lance Armstrong when he won his 7th Tour de France title. Nike, Trek Bikes, Alan Friedman and Lenny Futura pulled their heads together to create this winning bike.

First made in 1890, this beautiful and classic bike was highly recommended by famous celebrities.
